Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis presents the Lee Supply Co Indyrama!

The historic Lockerbie Square neighborhood received its name from Lockerbie Street, which honored George M. Lockerbie, an early resident of Indianapolis. The street was later immortalized in an 1880 poem by James Whitcomb Riley, who lived on Lockerbie Street during the final years of his life.

Historically, Lockerbie Square has been a vibrant community, home to business leaders, skilled laborers, and craftsmen. Today, the neighborhood includes residential, commercial, religious, and educational spaces built primarily from 1855-1930 in a diverse mix of architectural styles. Lockerbie Square’s revitalization began in the 1960s with the designation of the neighborhood as Indianapolis’s first historic district preservation area. It was officially listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and enlarged in 1987.

Today, Lockerbie Square retains its historic charm as new residents blend old and new, tying the neighborhood’s rich history to new stories and home design trends.
